Teams of developers went head to head in the 10th annual DemoJam competition in Las Vegas during SAP’s recent TechEd & d-code event.
The Swell Analytics team of Chris Rae from Super Retail Group and Clint Vosloo of EV Technologies took out third place with their app, which looks for the best surfing locations in the world and analyses the best times to visit.
The app conducts sentiment analysis via SAP software, geocoded tweets and surf forecasting data on the HANA platform, and uses SAP Lumira Server to create visualizations of the results, as well as an OpenUI5 app.
Each of the eight teams named in the finals had six minutes to demonstrate their app and win over the live audience.
Despite Vosloo reportedly donning a wetsuit for the presentation, the overall competition was won by the duo of Samtosh Kumar and Simranjeet Kaur, with their Spot On app, which uses GPS technology and predictive analysis functionality running on SAP HANA to find any lost or misplaced item.
