Australian company creates world first online enterprise architecture course

Enterprise Architects (EA) is launching the world’s first Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) focused on enterprise architecture.

The Australian international consultancy, which helps organisations use enterprise architecture to deliver business insights and change, has designed the course to help IT and business professionals gain a greater understanding of the importance and application of enterprise architecture, as well as provide an opportunity for individuals to increase their skill set.

The EA MOOC will run on the Open2Study platform, which was launched in March 2013.

“By sharing its knowledge and IP on the Open2Study platform the company can increase awareness of the benefits of architecture thinking to business,” said Craig Martin, chief operating officer and chief architect of Enterprise Architects.

MOOC will begin on 1 July 2013 and will be delivered via a series of short videos over a four-week period.

The subject requires students to complete a multiple choice assessment at the end of each week. Participants who complete at least three assessments with an overall result of 60 per cent or higher receive a Certificate of Achievement. The subject will be available for enrollment every five weeks.

“MOOCs are a new type of learning representing a profound shift in how the higher education sector leverages new technology innovation. It ties in with the kind of transformational change seen in other sectors, including postal, energy, business services and retail, brought about by disruptive innovations and the need to rethink business models accordingly,” Martin said.
