Fujitsu signs on as partner for Sybase Managed Mobility

By Freya Purnell

Sybase Australia, an SAP company, has signed a partnership agreement with Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand for enterprise managed mobility solutions.

Fujitsu will host mobile solutions powered by Sybase Managed Mobility technologies and offer them on a software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service basis to customers in the Australian and New Zealand marketplace.

Sybase Managed Mobility enables enterprises to integrate mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets with existing SAP applications as a service, providing speed-to-value with minimal set-up time and no infrastructure requirements.

The partnership will enable Fujitsu to integrate productivity apps from SAP – available on the Apple App store and the Android marketplace – with SAP Business Suite software. Fujitsu will also offer integration services and custom development for customers of the service.

Announcing the partnership at a lunch in Sydney, SAP ANZ mobility lead Andrew Fox said Fujitsu made a natural choice as SAP’s first ANZ partner in this area, as it has been a cloud partner for many years.
Fujitsu’s cloud will provide the infrastructure for the solution and leverage Sybase’s enterprise device management platform, providing a solution for CIOs trying to manage the increasing number of mobile workers, devices and applications in their corporate IT environments.

Fox said Fujitsu is currently working with a number of customers to get the service established, and is aiming for general availability by the end of the second quarter of 2012.

“Enterprises will be able to consolidate their mobile assets, implement a mobile security policy, deploy all mobile applications and control costs without complexity,” said Les Davey, group executive director, business and applications services, Fujitsu.

“With our significant investment in cloud technologies, we can provide customers with a single platform to manage their mobile applications securely with a highly scalable, cost-effective solution that also offers protection from technology obsolescence,” Davey said.

“Fujitsu has long been a key partner for SAP in this market, and the value they bring to enterprise customers is central to growing our mobility business quickly to meet accelerating demand for mobility services,” said Willie Jow, global vice president, managed mobility, Sybase, an SAP company.

“This agreement extends our global reach through partnerships with the leading operators, solution integrators, device manufacturers and others, offering customers innovative, easy-to-deploy mobility-as-a-service offerings.”
