IBM has announced it will acquire Green Hat, a leader in software quality and testing solutions for the cloud, web services, industry and major vendor technologies including SAP.
Founded in 1996, Green Hat enables developers to leverage cloud-computing technologies and conduct testing on software applications prior to delivery. Historically, to run simulation testing, a development team had to go through the lengthy and costly process of constructing a testing lab with new hardware and software. However, for developers competing in rapidly expanding technology markets, condensing development cycles has become a growing necessity. Green Hat can provide customers with a virtual test environment for a fraction of the time and cost previously required to set up testing labs.
The acquisition will involve Green Hat joining IBM’s Rational Software business, which will further allow customers to maximise continuous integration of an application. This will improve the function of applications that create virtual protocols, message formats, services and engage with third-party software.
“This acquisition extends IBM’s leadership in driving business agility and software quality by changing the way enterprises can manage software development cost, test cycle time and risk,” said Kristof Kloeckner, general manager, IBM Rational.
“Together we offer the most complete solution available today for agile software development and testing, with flexible options such as the cloud. Green Hat’s application virtualisation capabilities will help our customers accelerate their delivery of business critical software.”
Green Hat has worked with SAP professional services providers to deliver test frameworks that are suited to the multiple message formats found in SAP environments. The Green Hat Tester (GHT) allows users to create unique virtualised applications that can assure endpoints are always available for testing. GHT also streamlines the regression testing requirements of upgrades from SAP NetWeaver XI to PI.
“We’ve been focused on transforming our customers’ software development processes through innovative testing and quality improvements,” said Peter Cole, CEO, Green Hat. “We are looking forward to bringing Green Hat’s innovative application virtualisation and continuous integration testing expertise to IBM customers who have a growing business need to better manage their complex testing environments.”
The Green Hat software testing solutions will also be offered through IBM Global Business Services’ Application Management Services (AMS).
