The latest Forrester Wave research report named Deloitte, Accenture and PwC as leading technology transformation business providers.
According to Forrester, IT consulting firms are making a dent in the business transformation market, where traditionally consulting vendors such as McKinsey, Bain and Boston Consulting have always dominated.
The report, titled The Forrester Wave: Business Technology Transformation, Q3 2012, identified two main trends in the emerging business tech transformation market.
Firstly, companies are under significant internal and external pressures to undertake initiatives that require deep technology and business process expertise.
This means that they are “increasingly looking to external service providers to act as strategic partners, to deliver end-to-end services,” explains Stephanie Moore, principal analyst, sourcing and vendor management professionals, Forrester Inc.
Secondly, as a consequence of the changing demands of companies, consulting partners are now required to have both high-level business acumen and technical know-how.
“Providers must have deep industry knowledge, change management skills, and well-honed methodologies for business and technology transformation,” Moore said.
The report evaluated 10 different technology transformation providers, on three factors: 1) transformation capabilities reflected in current offering, 2) alignment of IT transformation strategy with key business objectives, and 3) market presence.
Upon evaluation, the report identified that vendors Deloitte, Accenture and PwC “led the pack”. The report stated: “These three companies stood out from the rest because of their deep vertical and business consulting capabilities combined with very strong technological competency.”
IBM, Infosys, KPMG and Wipro were also seen to offer competitive options, with strong client references and leadership in specific capability areas.
HP and TCS demonstrated strong technical expertise, and were recommended by the report for companies seeking more technology-led business transformation projects.
