More mobile workers by 2015: IDC

By Kirsten Wade

More than 838 million employees in the Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) will be mobile by 2015, according to IDC research.

The IDC report, ‘Worldwide Mobile Worker Population Forecast 2011-2015’, also revealed the majority of these mobile workers will be office-based.

IDC Associate Vice President for Asia/Pacific End-User and Mobility Research, Tim Dillon, said mobility is becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses.

“Mobility is at its most exciting point since Martin Cooper of Motorola made the first cellular call. The convergence of devices, networks and applications has changed the expectation of ‘any time, any device, anywhere’ from hackneyed cliché to an exciting truism.”

IDC’s upcoming Asia/Pacific Enterprise Mobility Conference 2012 has as its theme ‘Cutting Through the Mobility Hype’. The conference will explore how companies can adopt comprehensive mobile strategies to best deal with increasing mobility in the workplace, including discussions on the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend and key mobile application areas for businesses today.
