New innovation centre for Germany

By Elizabeth Kelleher

SAP has announced plans to build an innovation centre in Potsdam, Germany, where it will work with partners, customers and universities to develop new software solutions.

SAP will invest 14.3 million euros in the project, which will focus on developing in-memory computing technology like the SAP High-Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA) software.

The SAP Innovation Centre will be managed by Cafer Tosun, who aims to create an open and creative work environment that fosters a culture of innovation.

“In Potsdam, we want to establish the typical flair and the agility of a young startup,” said Tosun. “Together with young talent, we aim to generate ideas for the solutions of tomorrow and to quickly bring the best concepts to product maturity.”

Professor Hasso Plattner, co-founder of SAP and chairman of the SAP Supervisory Board, said: “In this age of iPads and smartphones, we are used to day-to-day and intuitive exposure to information technology. This leads to new challenges, but also to huge potential for a new generation of business software that we want to put into practice with lots of creativity and our revolutionary in-memory technology.”

The building project is expected to be completed in 2012.
