Meanwhile, a new report from analyst firm Gartner says that recent changes in roadmaps for vendors such as Oracle and SAP, with the launch of their Fusion and S/4 HANA products respectively, have made cancelling software maintenance contracts a “hot topic”.
The report, ‘What to Consider Before Cancelling Your ERP Vendor’s Maintenance Agreement and Switching to Third-Party Support’, authored by Gartner analyst Pat Phelan, said, while cancelling ERP vendor maintenance is not for everyone and should be considered carefully, it can play an important role in enabling an enterprise to run current mature application releases more cost-effectively, shift funds to business growth initiatives, and flexibly position for the best-fit future application platform.
