SAP has confirmed its ongoing commitment to Cloud Foundry’s newly launched Certification Program, created to ensure reliable application and skill portability across platform-as-a-service (PaaS) products in the increasingly prevalent multi-vendor, multi-cloud environment.
“With Cloud Foundry certification of SAP HANA Cloud Platform and our participation in the Cloud Foundry Certification Program, we can enable our customers and partners to leverage a continuous stream of cloud-based innovation in an open source environment,” said Dirk Basenach, senior vice president, SAP HANA cloud platform and platform security, SAP SE. “This can help lead to application and skill portability across cloud services or on-premise software products that offer Cloud Foundry.”
An independent non-profit organisation formed to sustain the development, promotion and adoption of Cloud Foundry as the global industry standard for open PaaS, the Cloud Foundry Foundation will ensure that all certified products use the same core Cloud Foundry software and that the Cloud Foundry experience is consistent across various providers.

As we enter the second generation, businesses are committing to the cloud for the long-term. As a consequence, they are demanding an industry standard in order to regain control of their applications and reduce complexity. Cloud Foundry certification gives businesses a guaranteed standard for PaaS that delivers both portability and speed – across multiple clouds.”
SAP’s initial commitment to Cloud Foundry was announced in July 2014 in conjunction with its sponsorship of Cloud Foundry for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. SAP has been a platinum-level member of the Cloud Foundry Foundation since its January 2015 inception and continues to innovate within the community to ensure customers and partners gain the benefits of additional deployment models, cloud services and programming languages that come from Cloud Foundry when leveraging the SAP HANA Cloud Platform to build or extend applications.
Cloud Foundry Certification is awarded only to products and services that meet the strict technical requirements outlined by the foundation’s technical governing body. Products using the ‘Cloud Foundry’ designation must re-certify every year.
