Gartner brings BPM event to Australia

By Freya Purnell

With a 2010 Gartner survey showing that spending on business process management projects is expected to rise significantly in 2011, with almost 20 per cent of respondents indicating a budget rise of more than 10 per cent, the analyst firm will bring its popular Business Process Management (BPM) Summit to Australia for the first time this year.

Drawing on the success of its long-running annual events in North America and Europe, the Australian Summit will be held over two days at the Sydney Convention Centre, bringing together senior IT and business leaders, Gartner analysts and solution providers to explore proven BPM management disciplines, as well as the latest technologies.

“It’s time for businesses in Australia to be proactive in transforming business processes and in control of events, information and competitive threats, and also create and maintain an organisational culture that supports continuous innovation,” said Michele Cantara, research vice president and conference chair for the Gartner BPM Summit.

“Invest in the skills and roles such as business process analysts, along with the tools and techniques that are needed to analyse and improve processes.”

The Gartner BPM Summit agenda includes Gartner research presentations, guest keynote addresses, end user case studies, panel discussions and selected industry sessions to provide IT and business executives with a complete view of the BPM landscape. The guest keynote address will be presented by Dr Michael Rosemann, professor and head of the Information Systems discipline at the Queensland University of Technology.

Hot topics to be discussed include organisation, culture and change; cost optimisation and organisational agility; process competencies and capabilities; technology and architecture; improvement methodologies and social BPM.
