SAP AG recently announced that the Indian Navy has adopted an SAP system to support the navy-wide Financial Information System (FIS).
The Indian Navy, one of the largest navies in the world, is responsible for safeguarding the country’s coastline, and tasked with responsibility to upkeep, upgrade, modernise and support the large fleets spread across the country through the Navy budget.
The implementation aims to enable the Indian Navy to better manage its budget, enhance transparency to top management and ensure data integrity and consistency for better decision-making.
The SAP FIS will be supported by SAP ERP Central Component, SAP Force Deployment for Defence & Security package and SAP BusinessObjects Access Control, providing users with across the board visibility and probity in the areas of budgeting, procurement, financial planning and accounting, according to SAP.
The system will link four naval headquarters with material procurement, establishments for ships, naval stores and armament’s depots across different locations in the country. It will provide the Indian Navy with a comprehensive view into allocation and reallocation of funds, receipts and recoveries. Expenditure and estimates that are to be processed and sent from the central database will also be managed in the system.

“The FIS system powered by SAP, provides the organisation a unified central system to make decentralised decisions with clearly visible authority, responsibility and accountability,” he added.
