Lending made easy

While not its core business, providing flexible finance to members is an important part of the role of the Murray Goulburn Co-operative. An SAP system has replaced ad hoc solutions to increase the capacity of the cooperative to support Australian dairy farmers.

Murray Goulburn Co-operative Limited (MGC), Australia’s largest dairy company, wholly owned by dairy farmers, transformed its loan management systems with the implementation of an SAP financial industry solution.
MGC provides around 35 per cent of the nation’s milk and is the largest exporter of processed food in the country, employing around 2500 people. Annual revenue for the 2008 financial year was $2.63 billion, with more than half derived from export trade. Robert Poole, MGC manager, industry and government affairs, says the company enjoys the unique situation of being able to support its members with short-term funding.
