Nan Shan Life signs multi-year contract with SAP

By Freya Purnell

Taiwanese life insurer, Nan Shan Life Insurance Co Ltd, has appointed SAP to undertake a multi-year project to build its next-generation IT infrastructure, as part of a broader business transformation.

The ‘Envision’ IT upgrade project, which is valued at several billion New Taiwan dollars, will see SAP ERP, SAP CRM, SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence solutions, SAP Mobile Platform and the SAP HANA platform implemented at Nan Shan.

The project aims to improve sales productivity and enhance customer experience across multiple touch points through the implementation of best practice solutions tailored for the insurance industry in Taiwan.

Among the objectives of the Envision project are:

  • Building a CRM platform from a holistic perspective that incorporates channels, clients and employee data in a centrally housed location,
  • Reforming processes through the improved efficiency of integrated IT systems and exclusive data and management reports, and
  • Maximising the efficiency and value of all business processes, including operations management, finances and investment accounts.

The implementation began in May, and is expected to take two to three years to complete. Nan Shan will have more than 100 employees devoted to the project on a full- and part-time basis, while SAP will also bring in dozens of experts from around the world to work on the project.

“Insurance customers are increasingly well-informed, more demanding and better connected than ever before,” said Ross Wainwright, global head of financial services industries, SAP. “To service these customers, insurers need powerful, scalable analytics to manage data effectively and make fast, smart and informed decisions. We envision accurate, up-to-date information at the fingertips of every Nan Shan employee to elevate the customer experience and better capitalise on potential business opportunities.”

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that SAP had signed a multi-billion dollar deal with Nan Shan Life; this should have stated that the deal was in New Taiwan dollars, not US dollars.
