New partners and industry-wide adoption of HANA: SAP Influencer Summit

By Anne Widjaja

Dr. Vishal Sikka, member of the SAP Executive Board, Technology & Innovation, SAP AG, announced at last week’s SAP influencer Summit that leading independent software vendors are adopting the open SAP HANA platform for their existing products, and to create entirely new applications.

It was revealed that SAP HANA would be at the core of the company’s platform roadmap in 2012 as Jim Hagemann-Snabe, co-CEO, SAP, declared that HANA in-memory would be the next-generation software architecture. Announcing that HANA sales had just reached US$100 million, Sikka explained at the summit that HANA’s unique ability to hold data and process it in RAM meant that it was capable of performing 1000 times faster than conventional relational databases.

“From real-time customer segmentation in telecom, to profitability analysis in animal nutrition to faster genome analysis in life sciences, we see SAP HANA eliminating layers of complexity and converting batch processes into real-time business,” said Sikka. “This provides a platform to build real-time applications and renew existing ones to help transform businesses.”

Dr Hasso Plattner, chairman of the SAP Supervisory Board  said, “SAP HANA is bringing unbelievable performance improvements to leading customers around the world and becoming a foundation of the SAP platform for both renewed and new products.” These renewed products include the Dynamic Cash Management app, and the development of entirely new SAP HANA based apps like a text-based analysis iPad app.

There was also an announcement about new partnerships with TIBCO, Tableau, UFIDA and Jive.

TIBCO will work with SAP on real-time collaboration and analytics solutions, tibbr and TIBCOSpotfire, on the open SAP HANA platform. Their goal is to leverage the speed of HANA to reduce the latency to process, collaborate and act on the information as it happens, and to access even more data in shorter periods.

SAP and Tableau Software are developing solutions to bringing real-time visualisation to business information, while SAP will work with UFIDA, Asia Pacific’s largest local management software vendor, to bring next generation real-time applications to market.

Jive will also support the SAP HANA platform for its customers as a part of its strategic roadmap long-term. Jive plans to use SAP HANA as a technique for processing analytics on enterprise social data.
