NSW Family and Community Services consolidates SAP system

By Anne Widjaja

The three existing SAP systems in the NSW Government Department of Family and Community Services will be consolidated into a single SAP ERP system by mid-2013.

Currently, Businesslink, specialist provider of outsourced business services, manages each SAP system instance within the agency.

The systems have remained isolated for “historical reasons”, according to a Businesslink spokesperson.

“Housing NSW and Businesslink are on separate instances and Community Services and Ageing, Disability and Home Care share an instance but as separate clients,” the spokesperson said.

Although each SAP instance is running on ECC6 Enhancement Pack 4, there are currently no plans to upgrade to Enhancement Pack 5. However, this upgrade may be reviewed in the future.

The consolidation of the systems has been planned in line with the whole-of-government Corporate Shared Services improvements initiated by the former NSW Government in 2010.

The consolidation was mainly introduced to cut costs, however Businesslink will also be cleaning up the agency’s data and improving processing efficiency.

“Data from the existing SAP systems will be archived as far as possible allowing for a clean break to start afresh,” the spokesperson said.

“Businesslink continues to look for ways to improve its systems and services in line with whole-of-government process standards and to reduce the time front-line service staff spend completing administrative activities.”
