On the Move: Former government CIO joins Ovum

By Freya Purnell
Analyst firm Ovum has appointed Al Blake as principal analyst for the Australian Government practice.

Blake was previously CIO for the Department of the Environment in the Commonwealth Government, where he was responsible for developing and implementing the Department’s overall IT strategy. He implemented initiatives such as organization-wide mobile device BYOD and comprehensive desktop virtualisation, as well as driving development and adoption of Green IT initiatives within the Australian Government.

As well as his extensive expertise in mobility and virtualisation, enterprise integration and sustainable ICT in government, Blake also has a special interest in service delivery to remote locations and marginal groups.

“My practical experience across the ICT landscape, including database analysis and design, networking, IT security and enterprise integration will be able to bridge the gap between strategic vision and tactical delivery within the public sector space,” Blake said.

Kevin Noonan, Ovum’s public sector research director, said Blake’s appointment will expand the firm’s expertise in the public sector arena.

“We pride ourselves on responding to the decision support needs of our clients with practical and actionable advice – backed up by the breadth and depth of Ovum’s global analyst team,” Noonan said.
