Revelation Software Concepts (RSC), a market leader in change control for SAP software users, has introduced an expanded trialling and delivery system for its popular Salt change technology.
Salt, designed for SAP-based information infrastructures, is a unique software platform containing a growing collection of apps and functionality. Salt‘s change intelligence technology is delivered as a virtual machine (VM) that provides up-to-the-minute insights into the functioning of SAP systems. This includes monitoring of an organisation’s custom code base, objects in use or in development by project teams, and potential problems caused by disruptions such as change overtakes and collisions. Salt also covers the current state and historical changes in code and can send alerts to specified users in case of “trigger” events.
The maximum number of licensed systems has now been increased to 20, and the trial period is now 90 days. This trial will allow users to test the key use of change intelligence offered by Salt – identifying environment wide system integrity problems before they cause any damage.
A new online Salt test drive system available with the trial will also provide users with a large test bed for testing Salt’s landscape management, developer, and object repository applications. Users will have the opportunity to explore and evaluate Salt’s features on three standard SAP systems labelled DEV, QAS and PRD. The test drive will use a live, cloud-hosted Salt installation rather than a demo.
Rick Porter, vice president of business development, RSC, explained the rationale behind the extended trial period.
“Salt uptake has grown steadily, but in the real world most large SAP user organisations have many more than the three systems our original free license covered.
“By increasing the number of allowed systems to 20 and making it a long trial period, customers get a real-world experience and a solid feel for Salt’s enhanced visibility into custom code and system details across the whole environment,” Porter said.
After the trial, users can continue using Salt on their own systems by subscribing on an annual basis. Price will depend on the number of systems licensed.
