SAP is collaborating with leading global chemical company BASF on a project to evaluate digital collaboration among the company’s many business partners in the areas of engineering and maintenance with the goal of using the cloud-based SAP Asset Intelligence Network (SAP AIN) to establish a fully integrated, centrally managed global asset information repository.
By establishing a single, reliable source for asset information, BASF expects to ensure both the data consistency and availability necessary to continue to improve the efficiency of its engineering and maintenance processes throughout the asset lifecycle.
“BASF constantly works on optimising its sites, plants and production processes,” said Dr Andreas Wernsdörfer, senior vice president, Technical Site Services Ludwigshafen, BASF.
“A more integrated digital approach with our business partners would allow us to easily access the latest and current information when and where needed, leading to quicker and better decision making and in consequence higher asset effectiveness.”
SAP AIN provides a single, secure, cloud-based global register of model and equipment information for consistent and efficient inter- and intra-company data sharing and a secure cloud platform to enable collaboration among multiple business partners. At the core of the network is SAP HCP, with IoT application services designed to help customers and partners develop IoT solutions efficiently.

The evaluation project, part of the BASF 4.0 project that has been driving the digital transformation of BASF since 2015, is expected to continue for several months at BASF’s Ludwigshafen integrated chemical complex.
