SAP promotes entrepreneurship to Indian students

By Eleanor Reader

SAP India has hosted a hi-tech event for 5000 students from 200 universities across the country to promote entrepreneurship.

The event is another way SAP is working to address the industry skills shortage in the region, with SAP Australia and New Zealand recently announcing they would be offering online courses in Queensland.

The students were exposed to the latest technologies, such as cloud computing, mobile computing, data, analytics, in-memory computing and first-hand information in social media to give them an insight into the requirements of the changing software market, according to SAP Labs India vice-president, Sunder Madakshira.

“The ‘Techniversity 2012’ is an ideal platform for varsity students to learn about key technologies and trends required to shift from academia to industry, as the event is based on education, inspiration, innovation, career and competition,” he said.

Students were able to demonstrate their innovative skills in using technology for various applications, including a ‘Design Challenge’ where they were asked to come up with an innovative product or a solution that would help the world run better.

The majority of students were from cities such as Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysore and Pune and towns such as Hubli, Kolar, Mangalore, Sringeri and Tumkur across the state (Karnataka).
