SAP and Red Hat have further strengthened their longstanding partnership in order to provide customers with an enhanced solution for running SAP software workloads on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The deepening of the partnership between the German tech giant and the Raleigh, North Carolina-based software company means that customers can now benefit from a comprehensive, integrated open source-based platform, making it possible to meet the demands of mission-critical business applications. By combining the power of SAP’s industry-leading enterprise software with Red Hat Enterprise Linux’s robust security features and innovative automation capabilities, organizations will be able to access a reliable and powerful IT infrastructure that is tailored to meet their unique needs.

Drawing upon the two companies’ extensive history of working together, SAP is gradually transitioning parts of its in-house IT infrastructure and portfolio of SAP Enterprise Cloud Services over to a standardized platform based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This shift is being implemented in order to better satisfy the changing demands of both SAP’s operational requirements and technological needs.

SAP is proactively taking steps to implement its migration roadmap, emphasizing increased support for the Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) signature cloud offering, RISE with SAP. Specifically, the company has designated Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the default operating system for any new business utilizing the RISE with SAP solution. This move is part of a larger strategy intended to provide customers and partners with a reliable foundation on which to build their digital transformation journeys.

On the other hand, Red Hat Enterprise Linux aims to provide a highly-trusted operating system, relied upon by many large enterprises across different industries all over the world. It is designed to provide a stable and consistent foundation for SAP software deployments, giving customers the ability to use a standard Linux platform in hybrid or multi-cloud environments in order to support their SAP solutions. This comprehensive offering from Red Hat intends to ensure that businesses can get the most out of their SAP investments.

“Red Hat Enterprise Linux offers a robust, open infrastructure to support SAP software deployments, providing a consistent foundation for hybrid cloud workloads. We look forward to building on our legacy of innovation together with Red Hat to empower our customers with greater flexibility and resilience across cloud environments,” Lalit Patil, Chief Technology Officer, SAP Enterprise Cloud Services, SAP SE, shared.

Extending SAP Software Workloads on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Together, RISE with SAP and Red Hat Enterprise Linux help companies more easily embrace and modify their cloud infrastructure in preparation for the next era of IT transformation. In the next year, SAP and Red Hat will work closely together to further integrate support for RISE with SAP solution workloads on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and to speed up SAP’s overall adoption of Red Hat’s offering.

Red Hat is providing dedicated product engineers and on-site resources to help SAP engineering and technical teams drive standardization on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and interoperability for SAP and Red Hat solutions, in order to support SAP in its efforts to more widely implement Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Additionally, in-depth understanding of Red Hat’s hybrid cloud technologies may be gained by SAP professionals through Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium’s combination of online and classroom-based Red Hat training courses and hands-on labs.

According to Gunnar Hellekson, Vice President and General Manager, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Business Unit, Red Hat, businesses require a stable OS base that has been thoroughly tried, tested, and verified for mission-critical workloads to successfully deploy BI/Analytics systems across the open hybrid cloud. He added:

“Red Hat Enterprise Linux already serves as a trusted backbone for the global Fortune 500, and we are pleased to further extend this trust to SAP and our joint customers as the common operating system supporting SAP software workloads and business operations.”

Building on Red Hat’s scalable, flexible, open hybrid cloud architecture, this cooperative effort aims to extend SAP software workloads on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, making it simpler for SAP clients to increase business agility, speed up cloud deployments, and fuel business innovation. With the RISE with SAP solution powered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux, customers may expedite SAP-based cloud transformation initiatives, including SAP S/4HANA.
