Stonebridge Systems CEO, Craig Broadbent, is taking part in the Ride to Conquer Cancer in Melbourne, a global event that raises money for cancer research.
“It’s my second ride, I also rode in the Melbourne event last year, and I have put together a team of riders this year with the goal of raising $25,000,” said Broadbent.
Last year’s Melbourne event raised over $6.2 million for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Research Centre, making it the largest single fundraising event in Australian history. Broadbent personally raised $3200 for last years ride.
The quest to find a cure for cancer is a personal one for Broadbent. One month after agreeing to start Stonebridge Systems with Peter Murphy in 2009, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“She is a survivor and now in good health, but I’ve been motivated to help find a cure for cancer since the day I sat in that doctor’s office and had my wife’s diagnosis explained,” he said.
Broadbent is heavily involved in cancer fundraisers, including Amy’s Gran Fondo where he will be riding with the SAP team this year.
