TAFE Open Learning partners with SAP to address QLD skills shortage

In a move to combat a projected shortage of IT skills in Queensland, TAFE Open Learning (TOL), in conjunction with Brisbane North Institute TAFE (BNIT), is partnering with SAP ANZ to offer online SAP courses.

TOL is a specialist platform for flexible online training solutions. The platform has been chosen to launch SAP Education’s latest suite of online training programs and is the first external provider to facilitiate access to SAP programs.

Enrolment through TOL provides flexible access to e-learning content, training systems, helpdesk support, handbook resources, live tutor chats and exercises performed on live SAP training servers, the press release stated.

TOL advocate and BNIT Institute Director, Lynne Foley said the partnership was a welcome addition to the suite of quality training programs already on offer through TOL, leading to solid employment outcomes.

“Through our relationship we aim to introduce much-needed SAP skills to the marketplace and provide an entry point for students wanting to begin or enhance their existing careers in SAP-related roles,” she said.

Cameron Brown, head of SAP Education for SAP Australia and New Zealand, said while the trend is being felt globally, Australia’s projected shortage in SAP skills is due largely to businesses’ demand for newer and rapidly evolving technologies such as cloud, mobile, and big data.

“SAP professionals are also highly sought-after to deliver solutions to enterprises and government. For example, there are multiple SAP projects underway and planned in Queensland over the next five years. The growing demand is for technical and business skills, configuring SAP solutions across IT, finance, relationship management, project management and human resources,” he said.

According to the press release, the gap in future workforce capability has presented a great opportunity for BNIT to get involved as they are well placed to assist SAP ANZ in the initiative, thanks to the TOL platform.

“We will be working closely with BNIT to ensure students receive appropriate SAP certification that is recognised in the industry,” Brown said.
