VMware and HP smooth the path to the cloud for SAP customers

By Freya Purnell

Virtualisation and cloud infrastructure provider VMware has released solutions to enable customers using SAP to easily migrate to virtualised infrastructure.

These solutions, which include HP reference architectures for use with SAP, are designed to increase agility, performance and scalability of running SAP applications while reducing capital and operating costs – helping customers accelerate their journey to the cloud.

VMware said the solutions are suitable for customers looking to refresh current hardware, migrate from proprietary platforms or deploy SAP for the first time.

“Virtualisation delivers the benefits of cloud computing to existing legacy applications by providing dynamic scalability, built-in high availability, provisioning in minutes and automated disaster recovery at the infrastructure level,” said Gary Green, vice president, global strategic alliances, VMware. “Working with HP and SAP AG, we are helping customers virtualise their business-critical applications to create dynamic datacentres that can deliver IT as a service.”

Paul Miller, vice president, solutions and strategic alliances, enterprise servers, storage and networking, HP, said a key priority for organisations using SAP is ensuring data is secure and always available.

“The HP reference architecture for use with SAP software integrates VMware vSphere together with HP Converged Infrastructure, enabling organisations to move their high-priority business applications onto virtual machines securely.”
