VMware extends collaboration with SAP on mobile app delivery

By Freya Purnell
VMware will integrate the mobile place application from the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio with AirWatch by VMware solutions, to help simplify mobile app delivery for end users.

The collaboration is expected to provide an enhanced experience of applications used for work across corporate-owned, line-of-business and bring your own device (BYOD) scenarios, particularly important as organisations continue to shift from simple email configuration on mobile devices to robust application and content delivery.

The expanded VMware and SAP relationship will provide solutions that can enable AirWatch customers to gain access to SAP Mobile Secure; AirWatch administrators to browse mobile place to select applications relevant to their enterprise, enter company-specific configurations and then distribute the application using AirWatch to selected users; and allow users to access mobile place to find and install applications of interest without involving IT.

Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, end user computing, VMware, said, “By expanding our valued partnership with SAP, we are enabling customers to benefit from secure and more streamlined integration between SAP and our AirWatch solution suite to help accelerate mobility transformation.

“Our vision is to provide a secure virtual workspace to allow users to work at the speed of life, and being one of the first to partner with SAP in this area, further cements our position as an industry leader and innovator in the mobile-cloud era.”

Kevin Ichhpurani, senior vice president and head of corporate business development and strategic ecosystem, SAP, said the integration demonstrate’s SAP commitment to making the mobile application experience simpler and more secure for customers, regardless of the mobile device management (MDM) solution they may have in place.

The AirWatch by VMware platform, an industry-leading solution for mobile device, application, email, browser and content management, is used by more than 13,000 organisations in 150 countries.
