Multinational software solutions provider SAP, together with the Sailing Yacht Research Foundation (SYRF) announced the launch of a new SAP mobile app called ‘Sail Insight powered by SAP.’
SYRF Technical Director Larry Rosenfeld commented,
“We are thrilled to be working with SAP to help grow sailing worldwide. The technology and capabilities that SAP brings are tremendous, and together with our board’s lifetime of work in the sport, we believe we can make progress even faster together by introducing and getting feedback from the community now.”
A mobile app powered by SAP Sailing Analytics
Created for the global sailing community and powered by SAP Sailing Analytics cloud and in-memory technology, the app is currently offered for free through 2020. The SAP mobile app is available for download on the Apple Store and Google Play Store.
The free version of ‘Sail Insight powered by SAP’ allows sailors to access all features, which include:
- simplified regatta tracking
- real-time and post-race performance analytics reports
- live handicap leaderboards
- an intuitive guide to set up events and courses with a very simple click-through wizard
- sign in to a regatta via a shared link or simply by scanning a QR code
The SAP mobile app also allows users to share their performance results and send invitations to other sailors and fans through social media and make it known to a wider audience.
‘Sail Insight powered by SAP’ connects to the SAP Sailing Analytics cloud solution that empowers sailors, coaches and fans to analyse their performance. According to SAP, one-design racing, as well as single number handicap regattas, are currently supported with ORC Performance Curve Scoring (PCS) coming soon.
The mobile app is also reportedly backed by World Sailing, the world’s governing body for the sport of sailing.
SAP Chief Technology Officer and Executive Board Member Juergen Mueller commented on the product launch,
“Since 2011, SAP has been a trusted partner and innovation leader across the sport of sailing, creating solutions that improve performance for sailors, teams and race organizers while also growing fan interest and participation.”
He adds,
“The new app leverages the power of our sailing analytics database to create a mobile app that allows members of the sailing community to access data and information to help improve performance and enhance their race and event experience.”
