Cloud, business networks deliver for SAP in Q1

By Freya Purnell
SAP has reported gains of 131 per cent year-over-year in cloud revenue and 207 per cent in revenue from its business networks Ariba, Fieldglass and Concur in its financial results for the first quarter of 2015.

New cloud bookings, which SAP regards as its key measure of sales success in the cloud arena, also increased 121 per cent to €120 million.

Overall the company achieved 24 per cent growth in non-IFRS cloud and software revenue to €3.66 billion, with non-IFRS operating profit increasing 15 per cent to €1.06 billion.

HANA also continues to be a strong driver for the company, with the number of SAP HANA customers surpassing 6400 in Q15 – almost double the number a year ago. SAP S/4HANA has also proven to be a strong performer already, with 370 customers signing up to date, while the SAP HANA Cloud Platform has attracted 1400 customers.

At the regional level, the APJ had what SAP described as an “exceptional quarter”. Non-IFRS cloud subscriptions and support revenue grew by 137 per cent, driven by a very strong quarter in India. Non-IFRS cloud and software revenue increased by 38 per cent, and Japan was a stand-out performer with strong double-digit growth in software licence revenue.

“We are pleased to report triple-digit growth in both cloud and our business network segment which started on a high note,” said Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP (pictured).

“SAP S/4HANA saw robust early traction and is catalyzing momentum across SAP. We are a strong growth company with every region growing in double digits in cloud and software revenue this quarter. We remain ever focused on seamless execution of our consistent, customer-driven strategy.”

SAP also reinforced its outlook for the rest of 2015, predicting full-year 2015 non-IFRS cloud subscriptions and support revenue to be in a range of €1.95 – €2.05 billion at constant currencies, representing growth of 86 per cent at constant currencies. Full year non-IFRS cloud and software revenue is expected to increase by 8-10 per cent in 2015, with operating profit expected to be €5.6 billion – €5.9 billion.
