Macquarie Telecom is the first Australian provider to be included on the Australian Government’s Certified Cloud Services List (CCSL).
The list identifies companies approved by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) to have met the Government’s security standards to provide cloud services to the Government.
Macquarie Telecom joins Microsoft and Amazon Web Services on the list. It follows the company’s appointment to the recently announced Cloud Services Panel established by the Department of Finance.
Together, the Panel and ASD’s Cloud List will support the outsourcing of ICT arrangements to the cloud for Federal Government agencies, in line with the “cloud first” approach now mandated by Federal Government policy.
With security of government data a key policy issue in the public sector, Aiden Tudehope, managing director and co-founder, Macquarie Telecom (pictured), said governments are looking for a range of cloud services for different data classification use cases.
“This certification confirms to agencies that Macquarie Telecom’s cloud infrastructure is suitable for sensitive government data at the ‘Unclassified – DLM’ level,” Tudehope said.
“ASD has highlighted to government a range of risks to be considered when moving to the cloud. CCSL certification will give agencies a more informed basis to determine which provider is the best fit for their security needs when choosing from the new Cloud Services Panel.”
Tudehope said Macquarie Telecom has invested heavily in a purpose-built government data centre in Canberra and to create a suite of products, including its GovZone secure cloud.
