Hanalyzer helps organisations become HANA-ready

In the overall upgrade process to SAP HANA, the magnitude of updating custom code is often severely under-estimated. Enter the Hanalyzer: a cloud-based service from Denmark-based Gekkobrain to help organisations analyse, prioritise, estimate time to fix and manage the entire code cleaning process.

Code-cleaning can be a massive undertaking – often taking hundreds of days – since all custom code must be updated to maximise the benefits of HANA. In fact, all custom code must be checked and fixed to ensure that it will even continue to function after the upgrade.

“It demonstratively saved our SAP development teams countless hours trying to pinpoint and fix code with issues,” said Joe Strand, director, Gekkobrain.

“Most SAP users will have thousands of objects with custom code. Each single code line needs to be vetted and fixed for HANA to work best. On average, our clients have close to 30,000 objects with issues.”

Hanalyzer has been built as an add-on to SAP Code Inspector, specifically to manage thousands of short tasks. It does not import any source code, but can monitor all code, including new additions. It also has filters for runtime or UPL usage, typically reducing issues by half.

Hanalyzer is designed to go well beyond the capabilities of project management software and spreadsheets.

“No project management software or spreadsheet is built for managing thousands of small half-hour tasks,” said Strand.
