Indian power company chooses SAP on ASE

Bhavnagar Energy Company Limited (BECL), one of Gujarat’s major power generation companies, has chosen to implement SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), running on Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE).

The implementation of Sybase ASE is aimed at reducing inefficiencies caused by the company’s previous manual processes and effectively managing data across several departments.

Nayab Hussain Pathan, BECL IT head, said the adoption of Sybase ASE will enable several improvements to the organisation, including improved response times, effective data flow management and enable better decision-making to enhance productivity and efficiency.

“In addition to scalability and localisation capabilities, SAP has emerged as an ideal choice against competition that will help us operate profitably and in line with industry best practices,” he said.

BECL joins a growing list of organizations implementing Sybase ASE including Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution, Abhijeet Power, Industrial Mineral Comp, Jeans Kit and Sanghvi Foods.

Matthew Thomas, vice president, strategic industries, SAP India, said public sector companies in India are beginning to realise the potential of process optimisation strategies.

“SAP ERP on Sybase ASE at BECL will serve as a single source for acquisition, management and maintenance of information across the organisation and enable them to execute and optimise their IT and business strategies,” Thomas said.

The project is being implemented by IBM with Gujarat Info Petro Limited, and is expected to go live within six months.
