Few people would think of SAP and furniture or appliance assembly in the same sentence. But SAP’s latest mobile app aims to ease consumer frustrations by providing interactive, 3D, voice-guided assembly, repair and installation instructions.
The release of this app is not simply altruistic on SAP’s behalf, in a bid to prevent Allen key-inspired rages everywhere. Rather, in world where purchase decisions for home products are often based on reviews online, via social media or from family and friends, if a manufacturer’s products are too difficult to assemble, they are unlikely to be recommended to others.
The BILT mobile app allows consumers to find the product best fit for them and assemble it as quickly and easily as possible, and can cover all types of consumer products, from barbeques to bicycles to baby cots. It also streamlines the warranty process by capturing and sending product registration to the manufacturer.
For manufacturers, BILT enables manufacturers to update and make changes to instructions immediately, and the comprehensive 3D assembly instructions mean that assembly errors are introduced. SAP expects this will lead to fewer returned products and a reduction in customer service calls.
“Consumer products companies and retailers understand that value is created every time you improve the customer experience. SAP is committed to helping companies delight their customers by improving the experience wherever it takes place – in the store, online and now at home assembling the product they purchased,” said Pat Bakey, global head of consumer industries, SAP.
“BILT offers an opportunity to extend the relationship beyond the immediate transaction, helping ensure the experience promised is the one received.”
BILT is available on Android and iOS tablet devices.
