Analyst firm IDC has promoted Peter Wise to the role of country manager for New Zealand, taking responsibility for the role from Ullrich Loeffler, managing director, IDC ANZ. Wise has spent the last three years with IDC as telecommunications research director.

In his new role, he will report to Loeffler and lead the New Zealand business, which includes nine locally based technology analysts focused on the IT, telecommunications, hardware and software markets, and a sales and events team.

Loeffler said Wise’s appointment reflects IDC’s commitment to the New Zealand ICT community and continued investment in its local team.

“Peter has been a leading part of IDC’s local management team for the last few years. His professional experience, sharp analysis and commercial mind has gained him great respect both internally and amongst our customers,” he said.

Wise describes himself as a “recovering Chartered Accountant”, and held previous roles as head of strategy at Telecom Wholesale and GM, business marketing, at TelstraClear. His immediate priorities are to maintain momentum in the business, and ensure IDC continues to provide high-quality research to the New Zealand technology and IT buyer community.

Wise’s most recent area of technology research is looking at the emerging Internet of Things market in New Zealand.

“Worldwide IDC is predicting that there will be almost 30 billion connected things by 2020 and we’ve found that New Zealand is reasonably advanced in terms of take-up of machine to machine connections relative to other countries – this is mainly driven by a large number of connections for smart electricity meters, but there are also pockets of innovation in other sectors such as transport and security,” Wise said.
