The SAP Innovation Awards 2021 recognised 20 winners from around the world that have successfully adopted innovative technology solutions in fulfilling their journey to becoming an Intelligent Enterprise with SAP.

The annual SAP Innovation Awards honours organisations and individuals that have exemplified technology innovation leadership in specific categories, utilising SAP products and technologies. Since 2016, SAP has chosen winners that have set new standards, contributed to communities, and improved people’s lives.

This year, several changes were made in the program such as simplified application steps, updated categories to reflect new business realities and priorities, and newly added eligible countries– Belarus, Brazil, Croatia, Italy, and Nigeria. 70 finalists from 376 submissions across 27 industries– a 44{8bf2b29f36318f0ac46ab1cc03d7035abce669a1cea16c9ed62389a818fa22fd} increase over last year– represented seven categories: Social Catalyst, Industry Leader, Transformation Champion, Business Innovator, Cloud Genius, Adoption Superhero, and Partner Paragon.

Three organisations from Australia and New Zealand were recognised as winners–– the most number of ANZ companies awarded by the program since its launch– as innovation leaders in the areas of employee experience, inspection and maintenance, and welfare payments.

Becoming an Intelligent Enterprise with SAP

AGL, OMV New Zealand, and Services Australia topped the categories they competed in and were among the 20 winners of the SAP Innovation Awards 2021.

Transformation Champion

Australian energy retailer AGL won alongside Costain, Döhler, Parkland, and Paypal in the Transformation Champion category. In partnership with Bourne Digital, the energy company developed the world-first AGL One iOS app, which utilises SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite to bring together AGL’s employee network into a single digital experience. With key features from their enterprise tools readily accessible, AGL was able to meet its goal of increasing employee satisfaction and engagement across the board.

“AGL was focused upon creating a highly engaging mobile experience for their employees to improve productivity and engagement. The partnership between AGL, Apple, SAP, and Bourne Digital created an integrated and scalable solution that extended their investment in SAP S/4HANA with the agility of SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite. It has been a wonderful innovation story that puts their employees at the center of the organization. The Bourne Digital SAP App Haus Facility supported employee experience design thinking sessions”, said Bourne Digital CEO Selim Ahmed.

Business Innovator

OMV New Zealand, one of New Zealand’s largest liquid hydrocarbon producers, the largest gas producer, and a major explorer in several offshore basins around the country, won the Business Innovator category together with Shandong Energy Group Co. Ltd and Smart Press Shop GmbH & Co. KG. Intending to become one of the global digital front-runners in the upstream industry and addressing the intensely paper-heavy process of planning and execution of its inspections, OMV implemented integrated workflow management using SAP Plant Maintenance, SAP Intelligent Asset Management Suite, SAP Asset Manager, and HoloLens 2 in collaboration with Evora IT solutions. This enabled staff to create a smart digital twin that serves as a single source of truth to retire material and corrosion isometric drawings, essentially streamlining planning and execution of inspection and maintenance activities.

“I’m grateful to get the opportunity of being the product owner of this challenging and amazing innovation project at OMV Upstream to leverage new technologies and drive digital initiatives and projects. This project will change the way we are working and enables us to position ourselves among digital frontrunners within our industry!” expressed Farid Akbari, Product Owner and Functional Lead for Digital Transformation at OMV.

Adoption Superhero

Federal government agency Services Australia won the Adoption Superhero category along with Accenture and Heidelberg University Hospital for delivering new payments capability to Australians. Services Australia is responsible for delivering a range of health, social, and welfare payments and support services through Centrelink, Medicare, and Child Support. The government agency implemented the Payment Delivery Capability project (as part of the WPIT program) that created a new Payment Utility platform for Centrelink social welfare payments, based on SAP Public Sector Collection and Disbursement (PSCD) on SAP S/4HANA. Following the recent successful migration of Parenting Partnered Payment from the legacy system that paved the way for Pension to be progressively migrated to SAP S/4HANA, the new Payment Utility now delivers Pension Payments to Australian citizens.

“Our new Payment Utility, based on SAP S/4HANA, simplifies the end-to-end automation of both inbound and outbound payments, and provides the ability to deliver combined, same-day payments to Australians receiving emergency payments, pensions, and other social benefits,” said Charles McHardie, Deputy CEO, Transformation Projects of Services Australia.
