SAP considering second data centre in Australia

By Emily Jacobs

SAP is evaluating a second data centre in Australia to serve large enterprises and government.

Outgoing co-chief executive officer Jim Hagemann Snabe told The Australian Financial Review that security concerns are increasing the need for a second base.

“When I talk to the public sector…it’s clear they will only consume cloud if we can guarantee their data stays here in Australia. And we are ready for that,” he said.

He also told the publication that having a European base was a huge advantage after revelations about the United States government’s surveillance practices.

“People have realised that you need to manage the data centre in a physical location where the jurisdiction fits your assumptions. That’s why we see a tendency for local data centres,” he said.
