SAP is introducing digital badges for its Global Certification program in a move to provide digital proof of successful program completion and to help those who attain various certifications to gain a competitive advantage by promoting their proficiency and achievement.
The SAP Global Certification program, established in 1995, offers multi-tiered certification paths for a wide range of SAP subjects. The badges are designed to provide proof of completion that can be displayed offline and online on websites, in social media and in SAP Learning Rooms, the social environment of SAP Learning Hub.
“We are thrilled to offer certification holders a digital way to showcase their achievements via social media, and to demonstrate to their employers a commitment to continuous learning,” said Bernd Welz, executive vice president and chief knowledge officer, products and innovation, SAP.
Welz said that the badges will also act as trusted validation for employers, enabling them “to recruit and hire the right talent faster and at a lower cost as education and skill claims can be verified more quickly and more securely.”
SAP is offering the new digital badges at no additional charge, in support of the testing industry’s transition from paper certificates to standardised digital methods of recognition.
The SAP Global Certifications demonstrate that learners have developed skills through rigorous study and hands-on experience in a specific field of study. The new digital badges are intended to validate the bearer as a recognised expert in that field.
The badges, which were developed in cooperation with Acclaim, a Pearson VUE company, are based on the Open Badges specification, an open technical standard for creating, issuing, managing and verifying digital badges, as defined by the IMS Global Learning Consortium and the Mozilla foundation.
