SAP enters positive territory in APJ

By Nathan Dukes

Despite 9{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} drop in revenue and an increase in operating expenses globally in Q4, SAP entered positive territory with revenue stability and growth in the APJ region.

APJ was the only region SAP experienced positive growth, compared to the relative woes of the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region and America.

SAP released their full year and Q4 results in Germany on Wednesday.

SAP’s software revenue grew 4{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} in APJ, compared with -24{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} in EMEA and -6{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} in the Americas.

Overall revenue growth was flat in APJ, compared to -9{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} for the company as a whole.

While the 12 month figures for APJ aren’t as strong, the Q4 results suggest the ‘air cleared’ over the APJ region quicker than it did in other parts of the world.

Total revenue for SAP in 2009 reached $10.7b US, 8{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} down on 2008.

A 28{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} decrease in software revenue and a 3{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} drop in software and software related service revenue were offset by 15{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} increase in support revenue and 19{db8ca4bbfe57dc8f9b6df9233a3a6c04f4968125edf9bb330d4f787c3a87cd09} increase in subscriptions.

While the APJ results appear positive, the report doesn’t detail the results country by country.

A full breakdown of results from ANZ and APJ is expected from SAP sometime late next week.
