GIS mapping software specialist Esri has enhanced its ArcGIS for Desktop solution to simplify the access and use of spatial data in SAP HANA, providing transactional spatial data creation and editing capabilities for real-time operational and analytic applications.
The new features enable users to create, read, update or delete spatial data directly in HANA, and will provide the opportunity apply a range of new use cases and workflows for Esri and SAP users.
This builds on the existing read-only query layer integration of the solution to HANA, which was released by Esri last year.
“Our long-standing technical co-innovation with SAP has taken a major step forward with the introduction of the SAP HANA platform and its spatial capabilities,” said Jack Dangermond, founder and president of Esri. “We now have a single platform from SAP that simplifies both integration and the deployment of mapping and spatial analysis across the entire SAP application landscape.”
With native integration between Esri ArcGIS and SAP Lumira, customers can create mash-ups of Lumira charts and visualisations with geospatial data from Ersi, or visualise multiple layers of business data on Esri base maps. Users can also create custom extensions with software development kits (SDKs).
This collaboration builds on other geospatial enhancements announced previously by SAP, such as a geo-enabling services offering for SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA, accelerated spatial processing in the latest release of SAP HANA, SPS10, and Esri feature layer integration and offline mapping capabilities in the SAP Work Manager mobile app.
