The global leader in enterprise application software has embarked on a new venture that reinforces its commitment to the Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) markets. With the introduction of SAP sovereign cloud capabilities, the company is forging a path in the secure cloud services sector, bringing robust cybersecurity and privacy safeguards to highly regulated industries.

SAP’s innovative move is set to enhance its existing cloud capabilities by investing in secure data facilities. It’s not just the technological landscape that will benefit from this groundbreaking project; the initiative will also contribute to the regional economy, creating up to 70 specialist job opportunities across the ANZ region.

Primarily, SAP sovereign cloud capabilities are designed to cater to government entities and highly regulated sectors. Its inception also comes in response to the mounting pressure on such organizations to adhere to strict cybersecurity protocols and comply with data residency regulations. Offering cloud solutions and managed services, SAP’s latest venture will ensure customers can operate within Australia’s sovereign borders, keeping their business-critical and personal data secure.

Among the first to access these advanced capabilities will be government jurisdictions at both state and federal levels, as well as organizations operating within highly regulated industry sectors. SAP’s comprehensive service portfolio, which includes SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Analytics Cloud solutions, and Business Technology Platform, are all set to benefit from the sovereign cloud capabilities.

Boosting Cyber Resilience and Digital Innovation with SAP Sovereign Cloud

SAP’s global success is largely attributed to its cloud-centric strategy. The company’s evolution from a traditional software vendor to a provider of cloud services has seen it witness robust growth, with the cloud segment now forming its primary revenue stream.

In an era where digital engagement and productivity norms are in constant flux, SAP’s sovereign cloud capabilities are paving the way for customers to stay ahead of the curve. From reinforcing supply chain resilience to integrating sustainability into the heart of business operations, SAP is helping its clients tackle their most significant challenges.

Moreover, SAP’s partnership with certified hyperscalers approved by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Hosting Certification Framework (HCF) bolsters the sovereign cloud’s security, ensuring it is equipped to handle even the most sensitive workloads.

Damien Bueno, President and Managing Director at SAP Australia and New Zealand (SAP ANZ), explained that businesses grappling with regulatory, data sovereignty and cybersecurity requirements will find a powerful ally in the SAP Sovereign Cloud. The cloud capabilities aim to empower such organizations, enabling them to capitalize on advanced applications and platforms to manage the pace of change and innovation.

“Many of these customers are longstanding and strategic partners of SAP and we closely identify with their ambition to be progressive and deliver high-quality and more responsive services, in an environment where the bar for digital engagement and productivity rises continuously. With SAP’s global investment in sovereign cloud capabilities, we are offering these organizations in ANZ the opportunity to capitalize on the existing portfolio of SAP’s leading business processes delivered and supported, as a service within the sovereign borders of Australia,” Bueno further said.

Embarking on a New Era of Secure Cloud Services

In addition, the introduction of the SAP Sovereign Cloud marks the beginning of a new era of secure cloud services in Australia and New Zealand. Its robust cybersecurity infrastructure has already been acknowledged by key industry players like Toll Group and IBM Australia.

Perry Singh, President of Government and Defence at Toll Group, lauded SAP’s sovereign cloud capabilities as instrumental in bolstering cybersecurity resilience within their business and for their government and defense clients. Meanwhile, IBM Australia’s SAP Service Area Lead, Amanda Williamson, expressed similar sentiments, acknowledging SAP’s sovereign cloud capabilities as a crucial asset for companies navigating the challenges of changing regulations and evolving cyber threats.

“IBM Consulting looks forward to bringing our expertise to help more ANZ clients benefit from SAP’s sovereign cloud capabilities in Australia, respond to today’s challenges where regulations are changing rapidly and cyberthreats are evolving at unprecedented levels,” Williamson added.

Having initially made its mark in North America, SAP’s sovereign cloud capabilities are now set to reshape the digital landscapes in Australia and New Zealand. The company plans to continuously evaluate the demand for these services in further markets, signifying a commitment to spearheading digital transformation globally.
