Zebra Technologies and SAP partner to accelerate IoT deployments

Zebra Technologies Corporation, an Illinois-based technology solutions firm, is partnering with SAP to help accelerate the development of IoT products and applications by providing connectivity between the Zatar Internet of Things (IoT) Cloud Service and the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

The connector, available at store.sap.com, was built by ThingTheNet GmbH, a German-based partner of both SAP and Zebra Technologies. It enables organisations to integrate sensor data from IoT devices with SAP HANA to help enterprise customers obtain real-time operational intelligence and connect physical assets and inventory with an intelligent digital dashboard, permitting employees to remotely monitor and control the movement of assets according to strategic, real-time business decisions.

Connectivity between SAP HANA and Zatar, an ARM mbed-enabled IoT cloud service, enables enterprise customers to pair up heterogeneous devices and applications, resulting in improved device-to-cloud communication and business process automation.

“Enterprises in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, retail and T&L should be able to realise enormous value from harnessing sensor data and connected devices in the IoT, so long as they also have the insight and analytics to make informed business decisions,” said Thorsten Leiduck, global vice president, ISV ecosystem, SAP.

“Given the potential business value afforded by operational visibility, companies are racing to link assets and inventory to the IoT. By connecting Zatar to SAP HANA Cloud Platform, we are enabling companies to connect devices and sensors to the IoT in a way that can be utilised in real time and mined for data and insights,” Tom Bianculli, vice president, enterprise technology office, Zebra Technologies.
