By Kirsten Wade

As part of its ongoing alliance with SAP, SUSE has released SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2 (SP2) for SAP Applications. The operating system optimised for SAP software solutions increases the performance of compute and memory-intensive workloads, including those involving the SAP HANA platform.

“With Service Pack 2, we’re helping our joint customers that run SAP solutions on SUSE Linux Enterprise take advantage of technology innovations such as SAP HANA and seamless migration to cloud environments such as Amazon EC2,” said Michael Miller, SUSE vice president of global alliances and marketing.

The SAP-specific operating system was built using the recently updated SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP2.

Major enhancements include: updated Linux kernel 3.0 from SUSE to allow customers to run SAO applications on the latest hardware platforms; support for the latest hypervisor technologies; enhancements to the installation wizard to ease configuration and set up of latest versions of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform and Sybase solutions from SAP; and new antivirus tool-kit integration to improve cross-platform threat detection.
