The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has adopted the SAP Audit Management System to carry out risk-based audit planning, design individual audit engagements, and report the outcomes to stakeholders.
DEWA has achieved an impressive milestone by becoming the first integrated utility in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region to successfully implement SAP Audit Management System, a cutting-edge technology solution crafted by the German enterprise software giant. This specially designed system is intended to streamline audit processes and make them much more efficient. DEWA now sets an example for other utilities across the region and beyond by demonstrating that digital transformation can help drive greater efficiency, customer satisfaction, and cost savings.
According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at DEWA, one of the company’s three pillars of the defense model is internal audit. He further explained in a statement:
“Management and supervision represent the first line; risk, compliance, legal, and governance represent the second line. DEWA’s governance framework comprises the classic governance components, such as board oversight, a clear organization chart and span of control, a well-documented strategy, and proper delegation of financial and administrative authorities.”
Implementing SAP Audit Management to Improve Processes
The SAP Audit Management solution is an integral part of the SAP Assurance and Compliance Software suite. Leveraging the power of SAP HANA, the solution offers an entirely mobile-enabled end-to-end audit management system that enables organizations to streamline their audit process and manage risk in one unified platform. This advanced system gives organizations greater visibility into their audit processes and helps them stay compliant while improving operational efficiencies.
Utilizing SAP Audit Management will equip DEWA with a comprehensive suite of features for seamlessly managing audit processes, such as allowing easy access from multiple platforms and devices. It also provides integration with third-party systems including SAP Business Integrity Screening and SAP Risk Management; thereby, giving users the ability to efficiently collect and analyze data to identify potential risks or compliance issues.
Leveraging SAP Solutions for Digital Transformation
DEWA and SAP have been working together strategically since 2009 when DEWA adopted the SAP Wave 1 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in an effort to better serve its customers, staff, and business partners. In subsequent years, the Data Hub for Integrated Solutions (Moro) became another point of collaboration between the two companies.
Moro has been the authorized supplier of the SAP HANA platform for business cloud services since 2018. Fast forward to 2022, Moro received certification from the German IT giant as a RISE with SAP partner. When it comes to secure SAP cloud services, the organization is the first in the United Arab Emirates to receive official certification to do so.
In a meeting with SAP CEO Christian Klein in October 2022, Al Tayer underlined the value of sharing global best practices and experiences between the two companies. Innovation, digital transformation, the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data analysis, and cloud computing are all examples of areas where the two companies plan to work together, according to the DEWA CEO.
Last February 2022, DEWA also made the announcement that a collaboration had been established between Moro and SAP. The initiative makes it possible for government and private entities to achieve new levels of efficiency by implementing intelligent automation across their mission-critical processes. These processes are hosted from the cutting-edge data centers operated by Moro Hub —complying with the requirements of the UAE regarding data residency and cyber security.
