Pandora Undergoes SAP ERP Cloud Transformation

The SAP ERP cloud transformation program Pandora is implementing is a key aspect of the company’s strategy for achieving long-term growth and bolstering its extensive digital journey.

The cloud is revolutionizing enterprise resource planning (ERP), providing a new way for large companies to manage their resources. With the cloud, ERP can be delivered as a service, meaning that it can be scaled up or down to meet the needs of the company. This flexibility is essential for large corporations, which often have complex resource requirements. The cloud also allows these organizations to pay for only what they use, making it a much more cost-effective solution than traditional ERP systems.

In particular, well-known brands in the retail industry are in a constant state of competition to meet the needs of today’s consumers who are looking for a more streamlined and customized experience both in-store and online. The cloud has created new opportunities for retailers to reach their customers through innovative applications and services that provide a more personalized shopping experience. By harnessing the power of the cloud, retailers can provide shoppers with the convenience and customization they demand, while also reducing costs and driving growth.

As large enterprises like Danish jewelry manufacturer and retailer Pandora begin to realize the many benefits of cloud computing, they are turning to innovative solutions like RISE with SAP — the German tech giant’s Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) milestone offering — to help them on their ambitious digital transformation journeys. By using RISE with SAP, Pandora is laying the groundwork for future expansion while also benefiting from a number of features and advantages that the cloud has to offer.

Pandora plans to completely implement its expansion strategy by 2026, by which time the company will have extended into new areas and improved its product offerings across the board while maintaining its signature low pricing for modern jewelry. As of this moment, there are over 2,400 concept shops and 6,400 other retail locations worldwide where you can purchase a piece of Pandora jewelry.

Moreover, the overarching goal of the company’s “Phoenix strategy” is to make it the most successful and widely recognized brand in the affordable jewelry industry. With this, Pandora’s expansion plans are made possible by implementing an enterprise-wide digitization strategy and integrating SAP S/4HANA Cloud as the business’s new ERP system.

Detailing more about the transformation project, Pandora Chief Digital and Technology Officer David Walmsley explained:

“After a turnaround period where we needed to reconnect with our core customers and focus on core Pandora DNA and products such as the Moments bracelet and charms, we are now at a scaling stage. The main focus of the ERP transformation will be finance, anything to do with inventory and the end-to-end business processes reflecting the customer experience (CX).”

Transforming with SAP ERP Cloud Solutions

As part of its transition to the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Pandora has teamed up with SAP Partner Accenture for support. In order to further facilitate its expansion objectives , Pandora is putting its attention where it will do the most good—on developing a streamlined digital backbone. This entails taking care of everything from inventory management to franchise shop productivity to the management of operational data.

Walmsley emphasized that since Pandora is in the business of selling memories, the best results may be achieved by integrating the physical store with digital tools. He went on to say that if they succeed in this endeavor, not only would they be providing convenience for their clients, but also creating brand advocates.

“Some talk about “taking away the pain of shopping”, but at Pandora we want to celebrate shopping and make it a personal experience where we, due to SAP technology and our other digital tools, understand you, surprise you and delight you,” he further shared.

By the year 2026, when SAP will be completely integrated at Pandora, the company expects to be able to provide its clients with a true omnichannel experience, with no delays between their online and in-store engagements. Among the solutions leveraged in the transformation program are:

  • SAP S/4HANA for Retail
  • SAP Customer Activity Repository (SAP CAR)
  • SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP)

If the SAP ERP cloud project is deemed successful, customers will be able to view the store’s current stock in real time, eliminating the possibility of purchasing an item only to find out it has sold out, as has happened in the past when the store’s three separate systems have not been kept in sync. This will work in tandem with Pandora’s recently introduced improvement efforts, including “click & collect”, “shop online”, and “pick up in store”.

“When the system is fully rolled out, shipping details and availability will no longer depend on where in the world the customer is located; instead, they will be able to find the same availability of jewelry and individual suggestions for what pieces to purchase no matter from where they shop,” Walmsley remarked.
