The deepening SAP for sustainability drive across various industries, including the fashion industry, was reflected in the recent SAP Fashion Customer Council virtually held the first week of April.

Sustainability has been front and centre of SAP’s mission to help the world run better and improve people’s lives– from establishing a circular economy partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to creating a sustainability-centric solutions portfolio to help customers better manage their green line. In the latest SAP Fashion Customer Council, the German software giant’s strategic forum for its customers in the fashion industry, SAP featured two SAP.iO startups that have embedded sustainability in its platform– New Zealand’s CarbonClick and France’s Shippeo.

SAP Fashion Customer Council features best practices from Fashion innovators as well as SAP’s Fashion roadmap and innovative strategies to strengthen the industry network. During the latest online Fashion Council joined by 25 SAP customers, CarbonClick and Shippeo shared innovative solutions that not only resolve SAP fashion customers’ pressing challenges but also help them drive sustainability in the process. Both tech startups have participated in SAP.iO, the tech company’s equity-free, accelerator programme that enables startups to scale growth by harnessing SAP technologies and extensive exposure to the SAP ecosystem.

Sharing about CarbonClick and Shippeo’s feature in the event, Peter Akbar, Global Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Fashion at SAP, said:

“Once again, SAP.iO has showcased impactful innovation during our recent SAP Fashion Council. On April 7th Shippeo and CarbonClick, two SAP.iO startups, presented their innovative solutions to a select group of SAP customers from Luxury brands to Sportswear. After an invigorating session, our customers are eager to continue the conversation with these most promising software startups that complement SAP solutions.”

Embedding Climate Action in e-Commerce

CarbonClick is one of the participants in last year’s sustainability-focussed virtual startup program at SAP.iO Foundry Singapore. Established in Auckland, the tech startup offers brands and retailers a green button plug-in e-commerce solution that allows digital shoppers to purchase accredited carbon offsets as well as track and minimise the carbon impact of their purchases.

Integrated with SAP Commerce Cloud, CarbonClick provides businesses comprehensive visibility of their sustainable activities and allows them to extend their sustainability goals by promoting climate action to its customers, especially those climate-conscious shoppers. The platform has currently engaged 1,054 businesses and 160,700 individuals to advance climate action and has offset more than 40 million kgs of CO2.

CarbonClick will soon be available in SAP Store.

Driving Sustainability in Supply Chain

Paris-headquartered Shippeo has been a member of the SAP Logistics Business Network since 2020. Its service offerings allow API integration with Freight Collaboration and Global Track & Trace options, which provides customers a global view of their supply chain through real-time transportation visibility of full truckload road shipments in Europe. The platform leverages a growing network, real-time data, and AI in performing its function as the communication layer between shippers and truckers– from pickup to drop-off to an AI-based ETA. Shippeo offers customers exceptional accuracy to anticipate problems and avoid disruptions in operations with the help of its proprietary ETA algorithm powered by machine learning.

Altogether, the platform contributes to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions by ensuring accuracy in supply chain management, which includes allocating the required modes of transportation and avoiding the use of empty trucks. Available on SAP Store, Shippeo integrates with SAP Industry Cloud, and SAP Logistics Business Network, supplementing the planning and order management features of SAP S4/HANA Transportation Management.
