SAP RPA Solution Rated as a Strong Performer by Forrester

In a recently published report for The Forrester Wave Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Q1 2021, SAP RPA solution was recognised as a “Strong Performer” in the industry. Identifying SAP as a significant RPA vendor, the report evaluated the tech giant’s current market presence, offering, and strategy.

With new players emerging in the rapidly growing RPA market, the report highlighted the essential capabilities organisations should consider within an RPA solution. Using a thorough and transparent evaluation methodology, it has also provided an assessment of the top vendors in the industry.

“SAP’s RPA solution is a strong alternative for SAP customers, particularly for enterprises concerned with bots disrupting core SAP systems and those usually needing the central SAP development team to design, develop, and maintain RPA for clear accountability, or for companies seeking a feature-rich RPA tool that comes with a broad ecosystem of partners,” according to the Forrester Wave’s evaluation.

Sebastian Schroetel, Vice President and Head of SAP Intelligent RPA, has emphasised that the solution’s goal was to bring an automation tool that fulfills all of SAP customers’ governance requirements and, at the same time, suits their IT landscape. He added:

“Because their enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a key component of their daily operations, it is finely tuned by the IT department to run smoothly. For sure, our customers do not want any disruption in the way their ERP runs and need that any software robot interacting with the ERP to be fast and efficient, but without any risk of generating extra system load.”

Forrester acknowledged SAP’s strategic approach in incorporating RPA into its other platforms including SAP S/4HANA and soon on SAP Ariba and SAP SuccessFactors. Directly created and maintained by key product teams, the prebuilt bot templates are available in SAP Intelligent RPA store.

Automation Success with SAP Intelligent RPA

Since its launch in 2019, the solution has been constantly improving its capabilities leveraging autonomous software robots – “bots” – and artificial intelligence (AI). By the end of 2020, it has expanded its customer base in various industries with over 50 partners globally and has already achieved 1 million automations including that of REHAU China and Villeroy and Boch.

As the first customer to go live with SAP Intelligent RPA, Villeroy and Boch has optimised its processes using 10 digital assistants that automate tasks in customer service, accounts, and purchasing. The solution also assisted in classifying and checking the company’s 6,000 documents annually.

Meanwhile, REHAU China’s team has trained a machine learning model that, when used in combination with the RPA bot, was able to achieve seamless automation further boosting the company’s efficiency. The Chinese branch of multinational corporation REHAU Group was the first to utilise the solution in the Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) region.

Fulfilling its commitment to turning process insights into actions to help drive digital transformation, SAP has unveiled SAP Intelligent RPA 2.0 at the SAP TechEd event. This new technology, which provides high flexibility while helping ensure IT governance, includes prebuilt bot templates to drive efficiencies with SAP S/4HANA and other 12 lines of business.

Additionally, the software giant’s business process intelligence portfolio serves as a strategic initiative to deliver process excellence by monitoring, analysing, and improving operations.

“We aim to provide the best RPA solution for SAP customers and this will go far beyond robotic process automation. It allows non-technical users to create automation scenarios without code, and to deliver outcomes quickly with predefined content,” Schroetel concluded.
