The latest integration of SAP E-Mobility with Heidelberg Wallbox is intended to advance the development of intelligent charging solutions for the future. Leveraging the SAP solution for e-mobility and Heidelberg’s smart charging technology, the collaboration will help facilitate the expansion of new business models in the growing sector.
SAP is a known advocate of harnessing technological innovation while embedding sustainability across business processes. The German enterprise software giant was one of 44 organisations awarded with the inaugural 2021 Terra Carta Seal — a recognition given to private sector firms that are setting the standard in creating sustainable markets. In the same month, it also announced plans to transition its 27,000 vehicle fleet to electric cars by 2030. This corporate strategy moves the company closer to its environmental goals, further demonstrating its strong commitment to putting sustainability at the heart of its operations.
Recently, SAP established a strategic partnership with Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) aiming to combine the firms’ software expertise and hardware know-how in order to deliver intelligent charging solutions for the future, as well as build a long-term sustainable fleet management. Sharing the same climate ambitions and corporate strategies with SAP, Heidelberg also unveiled plans to become climate neutral by 2030 and is currently taking a holistic view of various business aspects such as the impacts of production and use of its products.
Detailing more about the latest collaboration, Marcus Antonius Wassenberg, Chief Financial Officer at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, shared in a LinkedIn post:
“Together with SAP, we have agreed on a strategic cooperation in e-mobility to drive forward our offerings for fleet management and residential complexes. By integrating the software SAP E-Mobility, the latest Heidelberg Wallbox generation can be operated both in public and private sectors.”
“The first pilot projects hybrid and electric company cars are in focus as well as a holistic energy management for residential complexes, hotels, and parking lots of restaurants and companies. In future, the wall charging stations and business processes such as billing, invoicing, and payment will automatically be managed,” Wassenberg explained.
Advancing Intelligent Charging Infrastructure With Heidelberg Wallbox and SAP Solution for E-Mobility
As part of SAP’s Industry Cloud solutions portfolio, SAP E-Mobility is a cloud-based software for managing a large-scale networked electric vehicle charging network. Presented for the first time at the IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich, the SAP solution allows organisations across different industries to create, operate, and maintain charging infrastructure networks to help individuals shift to more sustainable and convenient electric mobility.
Moreover, SAP relies on a network of certified e-mobility partners to provide companies with a comprehensive solution that includes hardware, software, services, and support. According to the two companies, an SAP Partner certification ensures a smooth integration between Heidelberg Wallbox and SAP E-Mobility to enable operators to manage their charging networks intelligently.
Commenting on the announcement, Heidelberg CEO Rainer Hundsdörfer said:
“We have successfully established ourselves as a provider of charging solutions in the field of e-mobility. Now we are pushing the expansion of new business models in this growing market segment. This also includes the operation of charging points with the associated software.”
According to Heidelberg, the collaboration is initially centered on pilot projects that are particularly well-suited to managing electric company car fleets and residential complex energy operations. In addition, the new services aim to offer an e-charging infrastructure in bigger residential complexes, as well as in employee, hotel, and restaurant parking lots. The SAP solution for e-mobility will be leveraged to manage the wall charging stations on top of billing, invoicing, and payment processes in the future.
“In SAP, we have found an ideal partner to successfully expand our range of intelligent solutions. Two global market leaders from the Rhine-Nackar metropolitan region are pooling their expertise in the field of e-mobility — that has a future,” Hundsdörfer noted.
As a market leader in Germany for the wallboxes typically used to charge electric vehicles, Heidelberg also plans to gradually expand its portfolio in the business area of e-mobility in combination with SAP solutions.
