Enabling enterprises to have a holistic view of their sustainable business operations, SAP Sustainability Control Tower is a cloud-based solution that provides environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting and performance management.

SAP Sustainability Control Tower is the third innovative sustainability software the German tech giant has announced in the past three months. In November, SAP Responsible Design and Production has been made available to customers in a bid to help accelerate their sustainability efforts in building a circular economy. Additionally, this year also saw the launch of SAP Product Footprint Management which delivers data transparency on businesses’ environmental footprint and improves their decision-making processes in real-time.

SAP remains committed to developing these solutions to help companies become sustainable, intelligent enterprises through ESG integration and data transparency. The latest SAP Sustainability Control Tower solution, which is built on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), aims to provide the agility and flexibility required to swiftly respond to emerging and changing needs without the need to write code.

Gunther Rothermel, Head of SAP S/4HANA Sustainability Management, has commented on the significance of the product launch for SAP. He shared:

“The release of SAP Sustainability Control Tower represents another key milestone on our mission to establish the ‘green line’ alongside the top and bottom lines as key dimensions of performance.”

“The insights from combined data provide a continuous view on a company’s performance that manual processes based on spreadsheets cannot match. Simplified steering, reporting, and performance management meet the requirements of a growing number of legal obligations as well as the emerging sustainability standards,” Rothermel further explained.

Meanwhile, Jan Gilg, President of SAP S/4HANA at SAP, believes the first step towards becoming a sustainable enterprise is for organisations to improve their environmental impact based on facts and figures. According to Gilg, SAP Sustainability Control Tower uses these insights to aggregate a company’s crucial ESG indicators, allowing leaders to make smarter and more informed decisions.

Moreover, the new cloud-based solution is just one of SAP’s initiatives to support customers in addressing sustainability issues. The company is also collaborating with key ecosystem partners and customers — over 100 of the world’s largest organisations — to build a set of solutions that will assist businesses of all sizes in integrating sustainability into their core operations.

Daniel Schmid, Chief Sustainability Officer at SAP, noted that SAP believes in a holistic approach to business success, and has been reporting on its own financial, social, and environmental performance in an integrated report since 2012. On the release of SAP’s latest ESG reporting software, he commented:

“We are excited about being an early adopter of SAP Sustainability Control Tower, which will help us further simplify and automate our reporting processes by enabling us to integrate financial and pre-financial data on an ongoing basis. Based on the insights derived from the combined data we can manage and steer the company performance while minimising manual processes.”

To ensure that SAP Sustainability Control Tower is focused on users’ needs and meets market requirements, SAP also worked closely with partners and customers to test the solution during development. Furthermore, SAP stated that its strong value proposition to its customers on ESG reporting and climate compliance will be reinforced by partnerships with PwC, EY, Deloitte, and BCG.

Underpinning its position when it comes to disclosing its own sustainability metrics, SAP has recently taken a spot in the A List of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Additionally, it was hailed as a software industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for the 15th consecutive year. These recognitions also highlight the company’s market-leading software and solutions that help businesses do due diligence on their own performance by measuring and monitoring their carbon footprints.
