Cyclife, a subsidiary of the EDF group, has chosen the SAP S/4HANA ERP to streamline its operations and support its growth, deploying the system in a public cloud environment.

Cyclife, established in 2016, specializes in the dismantling and management of radioactive materials and waste, contributing to the sustainability of nuclear energy. With a rapid expansion across France, Germany, England, Sweden, and Japan, Cyclife’s revenue surged to 201.8 million euros in 2023, marking a 24% increase. The company’s workforce now exceeds 1,100 employees.

In a bid to unify the processes of its various entities and support its growth, Cyclife opted for the SAP S/4HANA ERP. Cyclife’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), Benoît Delplace, highlighted the necessity of a robust ERP system due to the company’s formation through external growth. Many of its entities either lacked an ERP system or used less efficient solutions. The objective was clear: standardize processes, optimize operating costs, and support the company’s expansion. Additionally, this strategy aimed to phase out certain outdated systems, thereby reducing licensing expenses.

In mid-2023, Cyclife’s IT department revitalized its OneERP initiative. A dedicated team was formed, and after evaluating various options, SAP S/4HANA ERP was selected for its business capabilities and innovative features. The decision to deploy the ERP in a public cloud was driven by its benefits, such as reduced system maintenance and immediate access to SAP’s latest advancements. This approach also aligned with the cost and timeline objectives of the OneERP project. With Deloitte identified as a key partner due to its extensive experience and strong customer references, particularly in SAP S/4HANA ERP projects in public cloud mode, Cyclife embarked on a scoping phase in September 2023. Deloitte’s consulting expertise, especially in finance and regulatory knowledge across different countries, was a significant advantage for the project.

Comprehensive Integration with SAP S/4HANA ERP

During the project framing phase, Deloitte collaborated closely with Cyclife’s subsidiaries to establish a core model that would meet the needs of the entire group. The outcome confirmed the choice of an integrated SAP Information System (IS) built around SAP S/4HANA ERP in the public cloud. The primary goal was to harmonize and standardize all processes within the organization. The RISE with SAP S/4HANA solution, which incorporates industry standards and best practices, proved to be a strong fit, with an impressive 85% alignment with Cyclife’s requirements.

The ERP system covers a broad range of functions, including accounting, management control, procurement, project management, production monitoring, logistics, and maintenance. Complementary SAP solutions, such as SAP Cloud Identity Access Governance, SAP Document and Reporting Compliance, SAP Integration Suite, SAP Analytics Cloud, and SAP Signavio, further enhance the system. SAP Analytics Cloud, in particular, will revolutionize Cyclife’s reporting capabilities, enabling real-time analysis of high-quality data. SAP Signavio is pivotal for process documentation and may also be utilized for process mining in the future.

Moreover, this comprehensive SAP IS will be integrated with Cyclife’s existing SAP BFC budget consolidation solution, ensuring a seamless flow of financial data.

Cyclife’s board of directors approved the project on January 15, 2024, paving the way for the design and deployment of a core model across the group’s entities. In 2024, the focus will be on the general design phase of the ERP, followed by its implementation in two pilot entities: the holding company and a facility in Sweden. The deployment will then roll out to the remaining entities in two waves throughout 2025, adhering to an ambitious schedule.

After a thorough tender process, Deloitte was chosen as the integrator for the project, recognized for its commitment to cost and deadline management and understanding of Cyclife’s specific context and constraints.

By mid-May 2024, the general design phase concluded successfully, bringing all stakeholders on board with a unified target. This foundational phase’s success sets a confident tone for the subsequent stages of the project, ensuring Cyclife can fully leverage the benefits of SAP S/4HANA ERP.
