Deloitte Australia Champions Innovation with AI Institute

The AI Institute in Melbourne by Deloitte Australia was established a year after the inaugural Deloitte AI Institute in the US, which was created to further cutting-edge research centred on global advancements, the future of work, AI ethics, and case studies. Deloitte AI Institutes have also been established in Canada, China, Germany, and the UK.

SAP Partner of the Year awardee Deloitte Australia has recently been a digital transformation partner of the federal government in revamping the government services platform and digital health infrastructure. In April, the global systems integrator won a contract to create a proof-of-concept to cover an integrated human resource (HR), payroll, and rostering solution built on SAP for the Western Australian health system. Deloitte has also been awarded a $5.5 million contract, running across the second half of 2021, to develop a new myGov app.

Continuing the adherence to delivering innovation and technology solutions to solve today’s complex problems, Deloitte Australia has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) Institute centred on collaboration and research into the technology’s application in both private and public sectors. The AI Institute in Melbourne is part of Deloitte’s global initiative to bring together top industry thought leaders and academics, startups, R&D groups, entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators to drive AI research and applied innovation as well as challenge the status quo.

Deloitte Australia Backing Private and Public Institutions

Deloitte brings into the fold its expertise in applied AI knowledge and in-depth knowledge of industry pain points to help organisations accelerate transformation with AI.

According to Adam Powick, CEO of Deloitte Australia, the AI Institute was established to champion the use of AI for the public good as well as connect the global AI system to the firm’s clients to help them achieve the best outcomes. He explained:

“I remember being an early-stage AI developer in the late eighties as the technology was just emerging. [AI] has always held much promise for improving business and society, and this promise is now being realised, with the rapid advancement of AI and ML technology over the past few years.”

Kellie Nuttall, Deloitte Consulting partner, and founding AI Institute leader, highlighted that the AI Institute’s objective is to focus on the usage of the technology, as well as machine learning (ML), in Australian governments and enterprises. As the Deloitte AI Institute Lead in Australia, she shared:

“We will engage with futurists, corporate leaders, data scientists, and next-gen STEM talent to deliver impactful research that supports businesses in translating complicated unknowns into predictable, measurable outcomes. And we will examine important questions of how we build ethics and transparency into AI and help organisations remain distinctively human in a technology-driven world.”

The AI Insitute’s launch came at an opportune time when the Department of Industry, Science, Energy, and Resources released its AI Action Plan designed to help improve lives, guided by appropriate security and ethical considerations.

Forging Partnerships to Drive Innovation

Deloitte’s latest AI Institute in Australia and the multiple recognitions the firm received during the SAP’s 2021 ANZ Partner Excellence Awards– Partner of the Year in Success Factors, S/4HANA and Digital Transformation, Digital Supply Chain, and New Zealand – demonstrate Deloitte’s commitment to driving innovation in solution-specific areas. Globally, aside from helping enterprises accelerate digital transformations, Deloitte also fosters innovation in education and the advancement of the youth.

Last week, Deloitte has forged an allegiance with technology giants SAP and AWS to launch an e-commerce program for the Saudi youths. The hybrid program (online + offline formats) focused on digital, STEM and analytical, and entrepreneurial skills will cover several tech-driven topics including AI, ML, and data analytics. These technologies fuel the delivery of e-commerce, which has been steadily accelerating since the pandemic hit.

“This program equips participants with the skills needed to accelerate digital and e-commerce transformations in Saudi Arabia and empowers them to become SAP certified professionals,” said Ahmed Al-Faifi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at SAP Middle East North.

Minister of Commerce and acting Minister of Media of Saudi Arabia Majid Al Qasabi, Deputy Minister of Commerce Eman Al-Mutairi, along with Abdullah Bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi and Saad Al Qarni, President and CEO, respectively, of the Saudi Data and AI Authority attended the official launch of the program at the Deloitte Digital Center in Riyadh.
