Google Cloud and SAP have launched new native integrations between Google Workspace — which brings together Google’s apps into a single integrated workspace — and SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the German software giant’s complete enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, in order to enable customers’ innovation in the cloud.
In recent years, the partnership between SAP and Google Cloud has contributed immensely to industry development through joint solutions aimed at helping organisations accelerate digital transformation. Throughout 2021, the tech companies made successful joint customer adoptions with mutual customers such as Energizer Holdings, Inc., MSC Industrial Supply Co., AES Corporation, and Inchcape plc running the Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) signature offering RISE with SAP on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Last year, Google Cloud became a strategic cloud partner for RISE with SAP to expedite clients’ cloud and business process migrations. Several SAP products and services were made available on Google Cloud’s infrastructure and network, including SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, and SAP Analytics Cloud solutions.
This month, the two tech giants expanded their long-standing alliance to foster more enterprise innovation by integrating core SAP solutions in the cloud with Google Docs and Google Sheets’ collaborative features. According to the companies’ statement, new business functionalities, use cases, and opportunities for collaborative projects will be made possible by the integration of Google Workspace with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, which will benefit both small and large enterprises.
Philipp Herzig, Senior Vice President, Head of Intelligent Enterprise and Cross Architecture at SAP, said:
“Native integration with Google Docs and Google Sheets has been a common request from many joint customers. This integration will further pave the way for people to work collaboratively on any business documents and manage them closely along with their most critical business processes and data managed through SAP – all in the cloud.”
Accelerating Innovation with Google Cloud and SAP’s Expanded Partnership
In order to assist companies in their journey towards becoming intelligent and sustainable enterprises, the RISE with SAP offering delivers a comprehensive package of products and services, including SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Meanwhile, teams of all sizes are able to engage, create, and collaborate through Google Workspace, enabling them to drive innovation from any device at their convenience.
Google Workspace Vice President and General Manager Javier Soltero believes the transition to hybrid working is an indication that businesses can no longer rely on outdated tool sets that obstruct communication and foster silos. He added:
“With the expansion of our partnership with SAP, these new in-depth integrations will enable employees working in complex data sets within SAP S/4HANA to tap into the real-time collaboration capabilities of Google Workspace, enabling teams to simultaneously access SAP data and more efficiently drive projects forward.”
The native integrations intend to enable customers in:
- Exporting and importing data between SAP software and Google Workspace for collaborative involvement and immediate access to real-time editing and reporting.
- Having a clean data source thanks to the one-step integration, getting rid of potential translation when transferring app data and documents.
Moreover, the first set of features will be provided as standard capability in SAP S/4HANA Cloud later this year, with the remainder to follow. It is being developed on SAP BTP, which allows for deep integration and a consistent user experience (UX) across all SAP software that supports business operations from beginning to end.
