SAP announced results from a commissioned survey of healthcare executives conducted by Porter Research. According to the survey, healthcare executives will focus on reducing costs and improving overall patient experience in 2019.

Healthcare Executives Weigh In

The commissioned survey polled 100 healthcare CEOs, CFOs and CIOs. These executives were asked to share their key issues for health systems and how they will prioritise new technology investments over the next three years.

Highlights from the survey:

  • Health systems will focus on addressing cost pressures, largely stemming from declining reimbursements, along with improving the patient experience as consumerism continues to intensify.
  • Health systems executives believe that the keys to reducing costs and improving patient experience include strengthening operational efficiencies, enabling interoperability, increasing visibility into data and improving patient engagement.
  • Health systems are investing in solutions to support financial departments, improve patient engagement, allow interoperability and provide visibility into data across the enterprise.

“Health system executives are purposefully prioritizing their next technology investments to continue the journey to a better patient experience and lower costs for all,” said Dr. Werner Eberhardt, global head, SAP Healthcare. “These findings make clear their top requirements, threats and challenges — information that the healthcare technology space as a whole should heed, as we play essential roles in helping healthcare systems bend the cost curve and improve patient outcomes.”

A Shift in Focus

A major challenge in the healthcare industry is declining reimbursements and funding. As a result, healthcare executives are finding ways to lower costs. Technology will be key in helping to streamline processes and improve efficiencies. SAP applications will provide industry professionals with the data and insights needed to make much needed changes.

Healthcare systems are shifting their current culture to become patient-centric. More than half of the respondents indicating they will invest in patient engagement technology to support this shift in priorities. Moving to a business model where the patient experience is at the core is essential for the future of the industry.
