SAP North America partners with leading pet specialty retailer Petco to provide full-time employees with comprehensive pet health and wellness benefits through its SAP & Mercer Voluntary Benefits program.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), 98{8bf2b29f36318f0ac46ab1cc03d7035abce669a1cea16c9ed62389a818fa22fd} of pet owners consider their pet to be a member of the family, and 74{8bf2b29f36318f0ac46ab1cc03d7035abce669a1cea16c9ed62389a818fa22fd} of pet owners reported mental health improvements from pet ownership. Furthermore, a poll of 1,227 working adults shows that pet insurance is among the top 15 most coveted employee benefits, which has steadily gained ground on the voluntary benefits menu over the past few years. Indeed, data from the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA) reported that the total number of pets insured in North America reached 2.43 million.

SAP works continuously to provide an outstanding employee experience by providing employee benefits that extend beyond healthcare coverage and retirement plans, with a variety of global and local options. To address the growing need for more comprehensive pet health and wellness benefits and to support its employees’ mental wellbeing—especially now when employees are forced to stay at home due to the pandemic and with the crisis causing negative impacts on people’s mental health—SAP North America decided to partner with Petco to offer pet insurance and bereavement programs to its full-time employees.

“SAP is a high-performance organization. People work really hard and those kinds of hours can get pretty stressful. When [an employee] steps into their house and a pet is there, you know they’re there to help ground you and keep you sane. We’ve been hearing a lot of just how important pets are in [employees’] lives.”

-Jason Russell, SAP Head of North America Total Rewards
